Think About This… You counsel others every day, whether you realize it or not. Every time somebody asks for  your opinion or talks to you about a problem, you are counseling. The question is, “How scriptural and valid is the answer you are giving?” There is a difference between a Christian who counsels and Christian counseling.
Many people think that because they believe in Jesus, the answers they give to people are Biblical and Christian. Unfortunately, this is simply not true. Some Christians give opinions based upon their life experiences. Some Christians give counsel based up the counseling theories of men.  Neither of these qualify as Christian Counseling.  We are warned not to listen to counsel that is contrary to the Word of God and not to seek counsel that is contrary to the Word of God.
Colossians 2:8, “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.”
Psalms 1:1 “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”
Isaiah 30:1″Woe to the rebellious children, saith the Lord, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin.”
Instead, we are instructed to study the Word of God and minister well to those who are in need.
2 Timothy 2:15  “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”
